Growing mushrooms using plugs involves a simple process. First, homeowners should find suitable logs or wooden materials, as mushrooms thrive in organic substrates. Once the logs are prepared, the mushroom plugs can be inserted into drilled holes on the surface.

After inoculation, it typically takes a few weeks to several months (depending on the strain and wood type) for mycelium to colonize the wood. Once the mushrooms have grown and matured, they can be harvested and enjoyed in various culinary dishes. This method not only provides a sustainable source of fresh mushrooms but also turns gardening into a rewarding and enjoyable hobby.

Log cultivation is usually done with logs 4 - 6 inches in diameter with a length of 3 to 4 feet. Oak is particularly good for the cultivation of most mushrooms though many other species work well also: poplar, aspen, sugar maple, willow, alder and birch, among others.  Each plug is 5/16" diameter and inserted 1 inch into the log/stump.  So you will need a drill bit 5/16" diameter.          FULL DOWNLOADABLE/VIEWING PDF INSTRUCTIONS BELOW.

DON'T FORGET THE WAX!

When inserting plugs each should be covered in organic wax.  We sell soy wax that is perfect for mushroom plugs.
